Homemade Granola

Ingredients

  • 4 cups uncooked oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups wheat germ (raw or toasted)
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1/4 cup powdered milk
  • 1-2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla

Optional Ingredients:

  • ½ cup sesame seeds
  • ½ cup raw nuts
  • seeds or raisins etc.

Directions

In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients.  In a saucepan combine oil, honey and vanilla and warm. Add these to the dry ingredients and stir till all the particles are coated.  (Hand mixing works well here.) Spread this mixture out in a long, low pan or rimmed baking sheets that have been greased, and bake at either 250° for an hour OR 300° for half an hour depending on your time schedule. Turn this with a spatula from time to time. When finished toasting, add your dried fruits such as raisins and store in an airtight container when cool.
